First Presbyterian Church 231 N. Burnett Denison, Texas The Sunday Gazetteer
Sunday, December 24, 1893 pg. 1 CHRISTMAS IN DENISON How the Date is to be Celebrated by Churches, Societies, and Individuals PRESBYTERIAN, BURNETT AVENUE For the first time in many years Christmas will come and go without a tree at the Burnett Avenue Presbyterian Church. This is the first church building put up in Denison. It was erected in the fall of 1873, and is, therefore, more than 20 years old. During all of those years, with but one or two short intermissions, Mr. Sam Hanna has been superintendent. The Christmas tree has not always been held in the church building, but if the Gazetteer is not mistaken, Santa Claus has made twenty visits to the Presbyterian children of Denison. This year the program has been changed and to-morrow, Sunday evening, a special children's meeting will be held and a collection for orphan children will be made. A musical programme for the evening has been arranged by the organist.
