GOD'S TEMPLES
Our little Churches Around the Corner.

Amid the Whirl of Business are These Cherished.
The Methodist Episcopal Church was organized in this city by Rev. M. Holman, father of Frank Holman, soon after the founding of the city in 1872, making it the oldest church of the city.  In the spring of 1872 Rev. A. Jamison was stationed here and remained until June 1875.  During his stay the church extension society bought the building on Woodard street, which had been built for public use by subscription among the citizens, paying $800 for it.   The society kept open a place of worship, but made little or no headway.  In November 1875, Rev. M.A. Daugherty, the present pastor, was stationed here, who has succeeded in gathering an influential society of about 100 and in building and gathering the means to pay for the finest brick church in North Texas and one of the chief ornaments of our city.  This society has ample means to pay all it owes, has a flourishing Sunday school, a large and intelligent congregation, and its free seats and wide awake, generous people, extend a hearty welcome to all.  It is doing a grand and noble work for our community.
