First Christian Church Denison, Texas The Sunday Gazetteer
Sunday, December 24, 1893 pg. 1 CHRISTMAS IN DENISON How the Date is to be Celebrated by Churches, Societies, and Individuals CHRISTIAN CHURCH On Monday evening a Christmas windmill will be operated at the Christian church building by the teachers and children of the Sunday School. Dr. McDonald, recently of Denton, will be the chief miller and will be assisted by a number of little Brownies. The great fans of the mill will revolve at the top of the tower, and as the wheel goes 'round and 'round, all sorts, kinds, and sizes will be ground out through the hopper. Wind to turn the mill will be supplied by a number of small boys with hand bellows. The wind mill is a unique arrangement and will, no doubt, afford much amusement for all that attend. The pastor of the Christian Church, Rev. J.E. Elmore, came to Denison with his family not long since from Honey Grove and the denomination is delighted with his pastorate. Mrs. Judge Wilkinson, Mrs. Elmore, Mrs. Dr. McDonald, Mrs. Bush, Miss Carrie Baker, Miss Maggie Covey, Mr. L. Jones and family and dozens of the elder members of the church and Sunday School are at work getting ready for the grinding of the mill Monday evening. The church building is located on the corner of Armstrong avenue and Crawford street.
