CHURCH NEWS
The First Baptist Church concluded a week-long revival Sunday night with the
pastor, Rev. James Rogers, delivering the evening sermon.
Several activities and visitation highlighted the week long services. On Saturday morning, the evangelist, Rev. Don
Jopling, with a group of young people participated in a basketball contest in
the school gym.
Saturday night, the junior department was feted with a Hot Dog Supper at the
parsonage, with 14 attending.
A fellowship was held for the young people Sunday night following the services.
At noon on Sunday, a covered dish luncheon was served in the fellowship hall of
the church, with 40 or more attending.
The Sunday School Department of the First Baptist Church marked the beginning
of the new church year Sunday with a Teacher recognition and Installation. Rev. James Rogers, pastor, introduced and
recognized each worker. They are: J.B.
Layman, Sunday School Director; Miss Earline Rice, general secretary; PreSchool
director, Mrs. Jack Lankford and her teachers, Mrs. Beth Blackmon, Mrs. Ed
Wortham and Mrs. Fred Shearer.
Mrs. Lois Rogers is the School Age 1 Division director, assisted by
Mrs. Oma Wilson, Mrs. J. B. Layman and Mrs. Don Mullinis. Director of
the School Age 2 Division is Mrs. Kenneth Hudson, assisted by Don
Williams in the Boys Class and Mrs. Alvin Martin in the girls.
The
Youth Director is Miss Kathy Cook with Bobby Henderson teaching the
boys and Mrs. Jimmy Reamer, the girls. Mrs. June Ballard will teach the
Youth Group 2 high school class and will be assisted by Mrs. Bobby
Henderson.
The
young adults will be taught be Ed Wortham with Weldon Meek the couples
class teacher. Adult II Women will be taught by Mrs. Jewel Mullinix;
Mrs. Lucille Booth, Adult III; Mrs. Reba Shearer, Adult IV; and Cecil
Owens, Men Adult IV.
Mrs.
Oma Wilson will continue as church clerk; Mrs. Hester Hastings,
pianist; Mrs. May Johnson, organist, The music department will be
assisted by Misses Donna Mullinix and Vanita Martin.
Scripture was read by the pastor with a dedicatory prayer led by J. B. Layman.
