February 20, 2009 SHERMAN - Laura Fay Wright, 88, longtime Sherman resident, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009 at Hilltop Haven Christian Care Center in Gunter. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009 at Waldo Funeral Chapel in Sherman. Allen Lucker, chaplain for Hilltop Haven Christian Care Center, will officiate and the interment will be at Friendship Cemetery under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Laura was born Oct. 12, 1920 in Hagerman to Archie B. Hughes and Hazel Irene (Eudy) Hughes. She attended Southmayd schools and lived in Sherman most of he life. She worked with her husband in their moving and storage business in Sherman for many years but her passion was painting. She was a local artist and a former member of the Sherman Arts League. At one time she owned and managed an art, frame and lamp shop in downtown Sherman, Laurie's Lively Lights. Laura Fay (Hughes) married J. P. Wright on Aug. 1, 1937 in Durant, Okla., and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2007. He preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 2007. Mrs. Wright is survived by her children, son Mark and wife Beverly of Tom Bean; daughters Janet Brown and husband John of Reno, Nev., and Becci Mead and husband Rick of Rogue River, Ore. She had nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers are grandsons, Chad Key, Justin Key, Jerry Lynn Hinton, Jason Wright, Jamie Manry and Chuck Enders, and a great-grandson, Lance Key. The family will receive friends at Waldo Funeral Home from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21. Memorials may be made to Friendship United Methodist Church, 293 Friendship Road, Sherman, TX 75092.
