Marshall, Texas Tuesday, May 1, 1877 pg. 2 Dr. John W. Reynolds, a dentist well known in Sherman, met with a horrible death on Wednesday night of last week. He had been in Denison 3 or 4 days and when last seen alive, just after dark, was very much under the influence of liquor. About 9 o'clock, as the M.K. & T . engine No. 59 was backed up just opposite the south end of the old compress building, Brown, night yardmaster, standing near the track, heard a peculiar sound and hollowed to the engineer, James Blair, to stop. On examination it was discovered that the body of a many was lying on the track, with the whole top portion of his head cut off. The body had been shoved along by the wheels of the tender about 8 feet, and was lying between the rails. Death was no doubt instantaneous. No blame whatever can be attached to the engineer, or other railroad employees, as the man was not discovered until after the accident. The deceased leaves a wife and 2 children, who are in Sherman.
