SHERMAN - Services for Alice Virginia "Ginny" Harrell will be held Monday, September 26, 2011, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sherman. Dr. Mike Lawson of the church will officiate. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Taylor and Dr. Hank Gibson. A reception at the church will follow services. Waldo Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Harrell passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011, at her home following a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her family who had lovingly cared for her.

Ginny was born February 28, 1939, in Houston, Texas to William Mackey and Zera Belle Mackey Huffington. She graduated from Reagan High School in Houston and with honors from the University of Texas in 1961. While at the University, she was a member and past president of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, Mortar Board, and the Spooks Club. She also was a Gail Borden Scholarship recipient. Ginny taught school in Galveston, Houston, and Schurz, Nevada. She married Jimmy Joel Harrell on August 19, 1961, in Houston. Ginny and Jimmy celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary this past August.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sherman and the Joy Sunday School Class. She had previously taught a ladies Sunday School class at the church and was a member of Marsha Benson's Wednesday Bible Study Group for many years. Her other memberships included Sherman Service League, Sherman Preservation League board member (serving at the Roberts House), Needlework Guild, and Sherman Medical Auxiliary. Ginny loved her family dearly and was quick to respond to any family need. She was loved by a multitude of friends and was known for always taking her freshly baked bread to anyone needing encouragement. She loved God's Word and committed much of it to memory. Therefore, she always had a kind and correct inspirational word for others. She will be dearly missed.

Ginny is survived by her husband Dr. Jimmy Harrell of Sherman; son Dr. David Joel Harrell and wife Dr. Lindsey Nooe of Knoxville, Tennessee; daughter Elizabeth Ann Harrell Beaird and husband Dr. Mark Beaird of Waco, Texas; son Richard Mackey Harrell and wife Carrie of Garland, Texas; sister Ann Huffington Breed and husband Truman of Austin, Texas; brother Monty Huffington and wife Lenora of Plano, Texas; grandchildren Matthew, Miriam, and Madeline Harrell of Knoxville, Tennessee; Andrew, Philip, and Rebekah Beaird of Waco, Texas; and Emory and William Harrell of Garland, Texas; mother-in-law Esther Lou Harrell of Sherman; and brother-in-law Dr. Barry Lynn Harrell and wife Nancy of Hunt, Texas.
