March 4, 2011 Larry Ford Griffin, 65, entered the presence of the Lord with his loving family by his side Wednesday afternoon. After a courageous battle through illness, this proud Texan passed away March 2, the state's Independence Day. Larry lived the majority of his life on his family's land just outside of Sherman, which has been with the Griffins almost as long as Texas has been a state. Larry was a graduate of Sherman High School in 1964, and graduated from North Texas State University with a degree in banking and finance a few years later. He married Cindy, the love of his life, Aug. 12, 1966, in Dallas, and the lovely couple had their first child seven years later. In 1976, as America celebrated the nation's bicentennial, the couple welcomed a baby boy into the world. Jan and Andy were Larry's proudest achievements, giving him five wonderful grandchildren. Larry owned his own pest control company in Dallas and most recently, he and his son Andy owned and operated Griffin and Griffin Construction. Larry was a master with woodworking and was proud of the many projects he took part in and around his home church, Friendship United Methodist in Sherman. Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Ford and Wanda Griffin. He is survived by his wife Cindy, son Andrew Griffin and wife Kim, daughter Jan Carter and husband Gary, Larry's five grandchildren Garrette, Bobby, Payton, Andrew, and Will, his brother Paul Griffin and wife Debbie, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Friendship United Methodist Church in Sherman. Burial will follow at the Friendship Cemetery. Family night will be held from 6 -8 p.m. on Friday, March 4 at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Larry Griffin's name to the Friendship United Methodist Church's historical preservation fund.
