Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday from the Friendship Methodist Church for Alvin E. George, 67, of 518 S. Throckmorton St., who died at 8 p.m. Wednesday at a Sherman nursing home.

Services will be conducted by Rev. Thomas Beall, pastor of the Crutchfield Heights Baptist Church and Rev. C.J. Graves, pastor of the Friendship Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Friendship Cemetery under the direction of the Waldo Funeral Home.

Mr. George was born Aug. 28, 1904 at Cumberland, Okla., the son of the late John and Cornelia George. He was first married to Frances Bain in 1921 who died in 1939. He was married to Ruby Gentry McGehee in 1941. He was a Textile worker at Burlington Industries for 22 years before ill health forced his retirement in 1962. He was a member of Crutchfield Heights Baptist Church.

Survivors are his wife of Sherman; one son, James Alvin George of Grand Prairie; three daughters, Mrs. Theda Fern Gray, Mrs. Sharron Yvonne Pryal, both of Grand Prairie and Mrs. Barbara Holiday of San Antonio; two sisters, Mrs. Cecil Duncan and Mrs. Ernest Maxwell, both of Cumberland, Okla.; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Gene McGraw, Danny L. Short, Russell George, Richard George, Jeffrey George and Kenneth George.

The family plans to be at the Waldo Funeral Home from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday and at other times at the residence, 518 S. Throckmorton St.


Ruby L. George, age 96, slipped peacefully into the arms of Jesus Thursday, September 1, 2011 at the Homestead of Sherman.
Mrs. George was born December 1, 1914 in Idabel, Oklahoma the daughter of Everett Lee and Myrtle May (Cheatham) Gentry. Ruby grew up in Ardmore, Oklahoma where she graduated from high school in 1932 and was a member of the Baptist church. She would sing and play piano in church with her friends for church and funerals. Later she moved to Sherman, Texas and retired from Burlington Industries with 30 years of service. After retiring she enjoyed painting, sculpting, making porcelain and tiny miniature dolls. Ruby was an excellent seamstress making clothes for her friends as well as for her dolls. She also was a devoted caregiver to her husband who was ill for many years. Ruby will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mrs. George is survived by her beloved family, daughters, Sharron Pryal and husband, Michael of Grand Prairie, TX and Mary Barbara Sifford and husband, Leonard of Bulverdee, TX, and step-daughter, Theda Fern Gray of Grand Prairie, TX, grandchildren, Shannon Michelle Bowman and husband, Michael of Keller, TX, Michael Pryal of Keller, TX, James Pryal and wife, Elmyra of Keller, TX, Gregory Holliday of Ciblo, TX and James Holliday and wife, Kathy of Grand Prairie, TX great- grandchildren, Anna Lee Bowman, Andrew Bowman, Collin Pryal, Luke Pryal, Cecil Holliday, Leslie Holliday, great great-granddaughter, Madison Spitz, sister, Mary Pauline Short of Sherman, TX and numerous nieces, nephews, step children and step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alvin Earl George, infant son, Everett George, brothers, Clarence Gentry and Clifford Gentry, sisters, Ruth Coslett, Juanita McCraw and Opal Brakevill and step-son, James George.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Friendship United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Friendship Cemetery. No set time for visitation.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Scott Pryal, James Pryal, Gregory Holliday, James Holliday and great-grandson, Cecil Holliday.

Arrangements are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home, located at 604 West Main in Denison.
