The Herald Democrat
November 2, 2012 Faye Deaver Ferguson was born in Grayson County, Oct. 28, 1914. Her parents were Manuel F. Deaver and Amelia Holbert Deaver. They were a pioneer family and her father and uncle herded cattle over the famous trails in Texas. They moved to Grayson County, and were members of the Friendship Methodist Church, west of Sherman, where Faye's Grandfather Deaver was a charter member. She attended Southmayd High school and Denison High school. She married Wendell Fuller Ferguson and they lived in Southmayd. They attended Southmayd Methodist Church, where Faye taught a Sunday school class. They had two children, Bobby and Nelda. They later divorced, but both continued to be involved in all school and sports activities that Bobby and Nelda were involved in. As the family grew, they both were so happy to be close and enjoy family activities. Through the years, Faye enjoyed her home which she was constantly changing and improving. She loved having her grandkids visit. She took numerous vacations with Bobby's and Nelda's families. She loved to go horseback riding with the grandkids. She always felt so lucky to have her health and be able to travel and do so many things with the family. The last few years, Faye was not able to live alone and she kept up with friends by mail and phone. She was always interested in everything that was going on. She was a "News Junkie." Faye was "Granny" to her beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She loved to cook and was a natural teacher, sharing not only her recipes, but her family's history in the process. She was always quick to see the humor in any situation, and her laughter was infectious. Her distinctive premature white hair made her easily recognizable as she zipped around town in her white mustang. She prized her independence and prided herself on living on her own well into her eighties. She would regularly check on older friends, and was a constant visitor to nursing homes where her older sister lived out her final years. Never one to stay at home long, she loved to visit her family in Dallas, Ft. Worth and Phoenix. On family vacations, she was equally at home on horseback or with a fishing pole in her hands. She loved to work in the yard, and would mark the change of every season with something new; daffodils in spring, and mums in the fall – she knew the names of all her favorite trees, shrubs and flowers. Her greatest gift was to pass along the great love of life to all her family. She will be missed every day, but always remembered. Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Amelia Deaver, one brother Manuel, three sisters Ethel, Hazel and Esther; and one great-great-grandchild, Christian Bowie. She is survived by her daughter, Nelda Ferguson Colvin of Plano, her son Bobby G. Ferguson and wife Pat of North Richland Hills, Texas, five grandchildren Sheree Weeks, Kelly Ferguson, Mark Ferguson, Keith Colvin and Paige Baxter, nine great-grandchildren Emily Ottinger, Andy Baxter, Katie Baxter, Brian Ferguson, Brent Ferguson, Blake Ferguson, Jeramy Bowie, Canyon Bowie and Collin Weeks. She is also survived by her five great-great-grandchildren Rhiannon Bowie, Rylie Holloway, Caiden Bowie, Maddie Bowie and Elle Ottinger.
