Peggy Joyce Cranfill, 81, of Amarillo died Sunday, April 27, 2014.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Dannel Funeral Home of Sherman. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at a later date in North Beacon Church of the Nazarene in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Dannel Funeral Home of Sherman. Mrs. Cranfill was born July 20, 1932, in Sherman to Harry and Bertha "Bert" Wright. She graduated from Sherman High School, class of 1951. She married Lowell Franklin Cranfill in 1952. She spent most of her life in Sherman and Amarillo, near family and friends. The majority of her career Mrs. Cranfill worked in health care as a medical stenographer, including at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman, St. Anthony's Hospital in Amarillo, High Plains Baptist Hospital in Amarillo and Essin Clinic of Sherman. After Peggy's service to the medical industry ended, she continued to serve by being a caregiver for the general public. Peggy did this on a daily basis for many of the people in Sherman and the North Texas area. Peggy later moved to Amarillo to receive the care for herself that she had given to many others. Peggy was an extremely giving person, always putting others first. She was a generous and gracious lady, one who loved to cook and extend hospitality to all. Bundled with her medical talents Peggy was a wonderful home maker. Mending clothes, starching and ironing, at times she would make her own lye soap. Peggy would can vegetables and fruits for winter meals. She loved children and her favorite was her grandson, Justin. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bertha Wright and father Harry Wright; her mother and father-in-law, Noah Cranfill and Ada Cranfill; two brothers, Allen "Teeny" Wright and H.C. "Booty" Wright; a sister, Annie Laughlin and a sister-in-law, Hazel Wright. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Cranfill and wife Donna of Amarillo; Alan Cranfill and partner Jerry Williams of Houston; a sister, Mary Ruth Larabee of Sherman; two brothers, Dewey Wright and wife Owanna of Farmers Branch and Harold Wright of Sherman; a grandchild, Justin Cranfill and wife Elizabeth "Liz" of Amarillo; three sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Wright of Sherman, Jeannette Cranfill of Sherman, and Zelma Brockman and husband Joe of Grand Prairie; and her former husband, Lowell Cranfill of Memphis. Pallbearers will be nephews, David Brockman, Rick Larabee, Jimmy Vandagriff, Joey Vandagriff, Brandt Wright, Jerry Wright, Perry Wright and Scotty Wright; and great-nephews, Michael Barker and Weldon Wright. The family suggests memorials be to North Beacon Church of the Nazarene of Amarillo, 1601 N. Nelson St., Amarillo TX 79107. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
