DENISON - Paul McCaughey "Pete" Hagans, 72, longtime Denison resident, died June 8, 2010, at Hospice of Wichita Falls after a brief battle with cancer.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 12 in the chapel at Fairview Cemetery, 1501 Highway 91 N, Denison. Reverend Charles Pierce, pastor of St. Mark's United Methodist Church of Wichita Falls will officiate.
Mr. Hagans was born June 21, 1937 in Denison to Lyndon Arrol and Evelyn Marcella (Wright) Hagans. He graduated from Denison High School where he received the Tri-Hi-Y Award of Complete Manhood, was elected student council president and was selected as Mr. DHS.
After high school, Mr. Hagans attended the University of Texas under the prestigious Plan II Honors Program earning his Bachelor's Degree. He then went on to graduate from the University of Texas Law School. After completing his education, Mr. Hagans served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army in France and Germany. For the past twenty years, he worked with Jack Haggerton in masonry construction.
"Pete" was an avid runner and enjoyed competing in many turkey trots over the years. He will always be remembered for his brilliance, his wonderful sense of humor and his laughter. He will be missed greatly by his family and everyone who knew him.
Mr. Hagans is survived by his sister, Anne Hagans Rousey of Wichita Falls, nieces Sharon Rousey Ward and husband Martin of Garland, Lynda Rousey Fields and husband Gregory Fields of Valley Mills, Jennifer Fields Duncan and husband Zachary of Wichita Falls, Amanda Fields Bentley and husband Ian of Wichita Falls, and Sarah Ward of Garland. His nephews include Ethan Ward of Garland and Kael Duncan of Wichita Falls. Mr. Hagans is also survived by his long time friends, Jack, Janet and Chase Haggerton of Cartwright, Okla.
Mr. Hagans was preceded in death by his parents, Lyndon and Evelyn Hagans, his sister Lynda Elizabeth Hagans Stricklin, and his brother Charles William Hagans.
The family is very grateful for the kind, compassionate and loving care given to Mr. Hagans by the physicians and staff of Texoma Medical Center of Denison and Hospice of Wichita Falls.
Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. Friday, June 11, 2010 at Bratcher Funeral Home, 401 W. Woodard Street, Denison, Texas.
