Wednesday, July 30, 1941 pg 1 Elmer Wood, 31, associated with his father with the Wood Motor company here was found dead, apparently by suicide, at his farm near Cherry Mound 10 miles southeast of Denison, by Homer West, salesman for the motor car company, who went out to search for him when he failed to return at dusk Tuesday. Justice of the Peace E. A. Wright, who held an inquest, said today he had not made a verdict, but evidence indicated Wood came to his death by gun shot wounds, self-inflicted. The justice said Wood was found lying on a cot inside the farm house with a .22 high-powered rifle still gripped in his left hand. The bullet had pierced him in the left ear. West said he first thought Wood was asleep and didn't want to disturb him, but on entering the farm house later he found him dead with the gun still gripped in his left hand. Notifying a neighbor farmer, R. M. Wagner, West then called Constable Ira Jesse to investigate, who contacted Judge Wright. The justice said Wood apparently died between 10 am and 1 pm Tuesday. The body was removed to Denison by Short-Murray funeral home. Wood resided at 1320 W. Main. He was born October 31, 1910 at New Boston, Texas and was married to Miss Margie Lambeth at Durant December 25, 1930. Surviving are his widow, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wood and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Wood and Mr. and Mrs. B. Clark. Funeral arrangements have not been completed at 1 pm today.
