Richard Joe Rushing, loving husband, father and PaPa, passed away September, 24, 2022.
Joe was born on August 11,1948, in Dubach, Louisiana to James Rushing and Mary (Rushing) Tibbits and grew up in Junction City, Arkansas. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War, serving with the 25th Infantry Division. While serving he achieved the rank of Sargent and was awarded many medals, including The Purple Heart twice, The Bronze Star, and the Air Medal. After returning home, Joe worked in the construction business starting out shoveling asphalt, then learning every aspect of the construction business, leading him to start Rushing Paving Company, a very successful company for over 30 years. Joe married his wife Beverly of 35 years who he loved with all of his heart and they built a life that they loved. Joe was truly a self-made man with a drive for success and a work ethic to achieve it. After the sale of Rushing Paving Company and serving on many local boards, Joe retired to spend more time on his ranches in Pottsboro and Rule, Texas and spend time with his family, who he loved dearly. Joe was an outdoorsman with a true love for hunting and fishing. He was a leader, teacher, chef, and great storyteller. He was well-known and loved in the community. Joe was the foundation of his family, the one who held us all together. He took care of his family and we relied on his strength and knowledge, knowing that we could always count on him. We were blessed and will always be grateful to have had Joe in our lives and will forever miss him. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Beverly; Daughters, Raymie Barker and husband Ray of Sherman, Casie Driggs and husband Shawn of Pottsboro, and son, Darrin Cody and wife Carrie of Royce City; a true friend, like a brother, Monty Stephens and wife Gaye of Sadler; 12 wonderful grandchildren, Hadlie Hunter, Rylee Driggs, Braden Driggs, Julia Cody, Corey Cody, Shanee Cody, Amber Cody, Darby Nichols, Dakota Hunter, Garrett Hunter, Noah Barker, Reilly Barker, and 3 great-grandchildren. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, and a granddaughter. Graveside service with Military honors for Joe will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 30, 2022, at Fairview Cemetery in Denison, Texas and friends will gather to visit from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 29, 2022, at their home in Denison.
