Sunday, September 4, 1899 pg 3 LOCAL CONSIDERATIONS Monday, September 4 - Jack Raines who has a farm on Iron Ore committed suicide yesterday by taking a dose of morphine. Some time ago Rains was awarded a verdict against the Katy and received a few thousand dollars. Since then he had done nothing, but has lived a very irregular life. His wife had applied for a divorce which made Rains very despondent. Dallas Morning News September 5, 1899 Following is the note left by the deceased, spoken of by Mrs. Raines: "After due consideration, I have decided that the best way out of my troubles and for all interested, is for me to leave this world. I am sick at heart and can be happy no longer and death is preferable to the way I am living, so to all, be charitable, for I blame no one but myself for my troubles." 'J. R. RAINES."
