The Sunday Gazetteer
Sunday, January 18, 1885 CORRESPONDENCE It will be recollected by the readers of the Gazetteer that Mr. Wm. C. Edwards, an Englishman, who was employed in the Star Store, died on the 13th of December, after an illness of about 3 weeks with typhoid pneumonia. The proprietors of the Star Store and all the employes showed Mr. Edwards every attention while sick, he being almost a stranger in the city. Members of the Presbyterian Society, of which he was a member, were also very kind to him, and his remains were buried from that church. A day or 2 ago Mr. B. Isaacs, salesman at the Star Store, received the following letter in reply to a communication from him conveying the unwelcome intelligence of Mr. Edward's death: The Booksellers' Retreat King's Langley. Watford, England 31st December 1884 My Dear Sir - I write in behalf of Mr. Edwards, who is not well enough to reply to your letter, He thanks you most heartily for the trouble you have already taken, and the floral cross. The kind expressions and sentiments in your letter to his son he feels very deeply, and would be glad to grip your hand for the sympathy shown at a trying time. Mr. Edwards also wishes to thank you very heartily and those for whom you acted, for the trouble taken over his son's funeral, and will be very glad to full particulars when you have leisure to write. From your letter he presumes you will send on the particulars of the amount due to doctor and undertaker, on receipt of this note. I must, as brother to your late fellow clerk, thank you most heartily for your sympathy and expression of kindness.. I am dear sir, Yours very sincerely, R.B. Edwards To: Mr. B.
