4 February 1906 After a brave and persistent struggle against the inevitable, Alex Cummins, aged 37, died last Saturday at his mother's home, No. 1031 West Bond Sstreet. Mr. Cummins had been an invalid for about five years. The cause of death was tuberculosis. When Mr. Cummins' health declined, he visited Colorado. The desired end was not attained. He returned home and went to Western Texas. For a short period, there seemed to be a change for the better, but the hope was only transitory. Several monts ago, Mr. Cummins returned to Denison with his ever-faithful mother. His remarkable vitality and courage kept him alive when most people would have died long ago. This was a pretty world, and he hated to leave it. His business career in Denison is well known. He was for a long time associated with A. P. Wood in the real estate and abstract business. No one has ever stood higher in business circles than Alex Cummins. He was born in Grayson County. Besides his mother, the deceased leaves two brothers and four sisters, and a host of relatives and friends to mourn his loss. The brothers are H. H. Cummins, of this city; and Walter Cummins, of Pottsboro; his sisters, Mrs. W. S. Buster, of Whitesboro; Mrs. Harry Robertson, of Amarillo; Misses Ethel and Newell Cummins of Denison. The funeral took place last Sunday and was largely attended. The services were conducted by Rev. Crittenton, of the Episcopal church. At the church the Woodmen of the World officiated. 9 December 1936 Rites Thursday at Denison for Grayson Pioneer DENISON - A resident of Denison since 1872, Mrs. Helen Alexandria Morrison Cummins, 95, succumbed to a lingering illness at 8:50 pm Tuesday at her home, 1004 West Sears. She had been ill since 1929. Mrs. Cummins, wife of a pioneer of Grayson attorney, is survived by five children: H. H. Cummins, Denison attorney; W. S. Cummins of Wichita Falls; Mrs. W. S. Buster, of Sherman; Mrs. H. V. Robertson of Amarillo; Miss Ethel Cummins and Miss Newell Cummins of Denison. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 pm Thursday from the home by the Rev. Harry Lee Virden, rector of St. Luke's Episcopal church. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Short-Murray. Mrs. Cummins celebrated her ninety-fifth birthday May 6 at her home, surrounded by her children and friends. She was born in 1841 at Napoli, N.Y., the daughter of Dr. Alexander Morrison, native of Scotland, and Harriett Newell de Veaux Morrison. She came to Texas with her parents as a child, after a short stay in Canada. The family settled first in Collin county, then at Preston Bend, where Dr. Morrison practiced medicine. She was married in 1866 to James Hunter Cummins, a Confederate soldier from Missouri. Mr. Cummins, a lawyer and grocer, died in 1890. Mrs. Cummins was the grandmother of J.D. 5 October 1961 Funeral services for H. H. (Hum) Cummins, veteran attorney who died at his home here Tuesday evening, will be held at 10:30 am today at Johnson-Moore Chapel. Rev. David A. Jones, rector of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, officiated. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery with A. P. Linn, Hugh Kolbert, Charles Harris, Walter Lebrecht, Charles Gullett and Mark Cummins as pallbearers. Members of the Grayson County Bar Association served as honorary pallbeares. Denison Herald
18 March 1962 Miss Ethel Cummins, 86, retired school teacher and one of Denison's oldest residents, died at a local hospital Saturdayat 11:15 am after a two-month illness. She had been in the hospital 42 days. Miss Cummins made her home with her sister, Miss Newell Cummins, at 1004 West Sears. Residing with them until his death last October was their brother, H. H. Cummins, veteran Denison lawyer and former county attorney. Funeral services for Miss Cummins will be held Monday at 11 am at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, with Rev. David A. Jones officiatiing. Burial will be at Fairview. The family will be at the funeral home Sunday evening from 7 to 8 o'clock. Miss Cummins was born in Denison, Jan. 19, 1876, just four years after the birth of Denison. She retired as a grade school teacher here 27 years ago. She was a member of the XXI Club and the Episcopal Church. Aside from the sister, here, Miss Cummins is survived by another sister, Mrs. Harry V. Robertson of Midland. Denison Herald
6 April 1990 DENISON - Graveside services foe Newell Cummins, 107, who died Wednesday at a local nursing home, will be at 3 pm Saturday at Fairview Cemetery, with the Rev. Calvin Girvin officiating. Johnson-Moore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Miss Cummins was born Feb. 2, 1883, in Denison, daughter of Judge J. H. and Helen Alexandria Morris Cummins. She was educated in Denison public schools. Miss Cummins, a retired music teacher, studied piano under Edward MacDowell in New York City and studied harmony and composition at Kidd Key College. She taughter public school music in Chicago, Mansfield, LA,; and Denison. Also, Miss Cummins gave private lessons at her home. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and St. Luke's Altar Guild. Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
