Allen was born in Colman, Texas, June 28, 1928. He was raised in the country and loved the farm life, valuing hard work and the simple things in life. He loved the quote by Paul Harvey, “God Looked down on his Paradise and said, I need a caretaker. So God made a Farmer”. He married Nova Jean Mayabb on September 16, 1949 in Dallas Texas. Soon after Allen joined the United States Air Force, where he served proudly for 21 years achieving the rank of Master Sgt. Allen served as a helicopter flight mechanic and crew chief. He loved his work and proudly served his country. He went wherever the Air force sent him, including Korea, Viet Nam and Japan. Stateside Allen and Jean loved the Air Force life, living in many locations, including Florida, Mississippi, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas and Hawaii. They would join the local Baptist church wherever they were stationed, putting down roots and making friendships that would last a lifetime. They loved to tell stories of all the friends they made along the way and would reminisce for hours. Allen retired in 1972, mainly to get off “the rock” as he referred to Hawaii. Moving his family back to Denison, he soon went to work at Texoma Tool which later became Reedrill, retiring from there in 1993. After his second retirement he took up rebuilding antique John Deere tractors as a hobby and making a huge garden every year. Soon after moving to Denison, Allen and Jean joined Parkside Baptist Church where Allen helped to keep the buses running, served as a Deacon and worked in the two year old Sunday School class for over 20 years. Even today, we could form a long line of all the children (now adults) who had him as a Sunday School teacher and loved Mr. Dyer. The Lord gives people different gifts, Allen was blessed with the ability to relate to children. He would eventually get to the point where he couldn’t get down in the floor with them, as getting up became more difficult, thus he had to quit. Though he never lost his heart for seeing children grow and learn about Jesus. Allen is survived by his son Kenny Dyer of Oklahoma, daughter Carolyn Walton & her husband Jeff of Denison, daughter-in-law Rachel Dyer and grandchildren Jeff Walton of Denison, Cynthia Weatherly and husband David of Ft. Worth, Patrick Dyer, Deanna Dyer of Princeton, NJ and great granddaughter Nova Weatherly. Sisters Lois Davies and Pauline Salyers. Numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Nova Jean, son Richard Allen Dyer, daughter-in-law Terra Dyer, sister Lorene Rodden, brothers Dewey Dyer and Donald Dyer.
