George Koehiel Montgomery Sr. 27 May 1928 - 25 April 2011 Lillie LaVerne Bruce Montgomery 3 November 1935 - 23 December 2012 DENISON – George K. Montgomery, Sr., 82, passed away Monday, April 25, 2011 at Beacon Hill Nursing Home in Denison.
Visitation will be at 2:00 P.M., Friday, April 29, 2011 at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M., Friday, April 29, 2011 at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel, with Todd Catteau officiating. Pallbearers will be Kris Montgomery, Landon Montgomery, Gerad Montgomery, Josh Montgomery, Dale Sumrall & Ray Leavitt. Burial with full military honors will follow at Fairview Cemetery, 1501 N. State Hwy. 91, Denison, TX 75020. George was born May 27, 1928 in Louin, Mississippi, the son of William Tolbert Montgomery (1896-1988) & Leila Mae Shoemaker (1904-1978), both of Louin, Mississippi. He married Lillie La Verne Bruce February 2, 1952 in Denison, Texas. He retired from the USAF at the rank of Chief Master Sergeant (CMSgt.); was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars; last two major commands were the 39th Air Rescue Squadron Cam Ranh AB, Vietnam and HQ ARRS (Air Rescue & Recovery Service) Scott AFB, Illinois; he retired in 1975, after 27 years of service. In 1996, he retired from Modern Exploration, Inc., Sherman, Texas as Senior Vice President. He enjoyed family and friends; cook outs; his vegetable garden; fixing anything that needed fixing; loved watching his grandkids grow up, and, of course, football. He is survived by his wife Lillie of Denison; children George Koehiel Montgomery, Jr. & wife Donna of Allen, Texas, Lonnie Edwin Montgomery of Coppell, Texas; grandchildren Kristopher George Montgomery & wife Teri of Bonham, Texas, Landon Tolbert Montgomery & wife Rachel of Coppell, Texas, Stacy LeAnn Adams & husband Christopher of Anna, Texas, Gerad Keith Montgomery of Carrollton, Texas, Joshua Samuel Montgomery of Coppell, Texas; siblings Wilma Imogene Leavitt & husband Sidney "Ray" of Bay Springs, Mississippi, Ora Aliqueen Gibson of Augusta, Georgia, Ina Lynn McLelland & husband Douglas of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; in-laws (brother & sister) Ronnie & Ginger Bruce of Denison, Texas, Linda & Ken Bell of Denison, Texas; eleven great-grandchildren. Lillie was born Sunday, Nov. 3, 1935 in Denison, the daughter of George Wells and Johnnie Sue Ashbury. She was married George Koehiel Montgomery, Sr. on Feb. 2, 1952 and he preceded her in death on April 25, 2011. She was a military wife for 27 years. She is survived by sons, George Koehiel Montgomery, Jr. and wife Donna of Allen, Lonnie Edwin Montgomery of Coppell; brother, Ronnie Bruce and wife Ginger of Ravenna; sister, Linda Bell and husband Ken of Denison; five grandchildren, Kristopher George Montgomery and wife Teri of Bonham, Landon Tolbert Montgomery and wife Rachel of Coppell, Stacy LeAnn Adams and husband Christopher of Anna, Gerad Keith Montgomery of Carrolton, Joshua Samuel Montgomery of Coppell; and 12 great-grandchildren.
