John H. Daniel 2 October 1855 - 8 January 1927 The Sunday Gazetteer
Sunday, January 16, 1927 J. H. DANIEL, FORMER JUSTICE OF PEACE IN DENISON, DIED SUDDENLY. Death suddenly carried Ex-Justice of the Peace J. M. Daniel to his eternal home, Saturday afternoon, January 8, while seemingly enjoying good health at his country home some two miles beyond the city limit, on the East Texas street highway extension. The sudden demise is attributed to heart failure. Only a short time previous the gentleman had moved to his rural residence for the purpose of engaging in the poultry business on an extensive scale, and the day previous had returned from an extended visit to a large poultry plant in search of information. He, concluding to enjoy his declining days on the farm, having stepped from the office of justice of the peace with the closing of the past year, the city residence had been vacated, and very enthused was the Judge over his new venture. He was aware that he was a chronic sufferer from heart affection, but was always buoyant and among his many friends seemed to display a cheerfull and happy mood. He had reached the age of 71 years, and about fifty of these years he had spent in North Texas, serving many communities as minister of the Christian church and also following the profession of teaching school. Some eight years ago he brought his family to Denison to reside, and later was honored with the office of justice of the peace of Precinct No. 2. Interment took place in Fairview cemetery Sunday afternoon. He is survived by the wife, one daughter, residing in Kaufman, and three sons residing in Denison, J. H. Jr., Clayburne and Dave E. Daniel.
