Sunday, September 7, 2008 Doyle Clinton Akers "Doodle" died Thursday, September 4, 2008, at Texoma Medical Center [in Denison, Texas] from complications of pneumonia. He was born November 25, 1927, in Denison to Carl and Callie Akers and attended Denison schools. He also attended the University of Missouri School of Journalism and worked as a writer, editor, and photographer for the Denison Herald, Sherman Democrat, Houston Chronicle, and Santa Fe New Mexican newspapers. Doyle served with the Navy Seabees in WWII and the Korean War. A resident of Cherry Mound for many years, he is survived by his wife Georgia of the home; his brother Robert Clay Akers of Green Valley, Arizona; and two nephews. Services were held on Saturday.
