Ann Potts was born June 7, 1932 in Denison, Texas to parents, Edward
and Thelma Potts. She was affectionally called “Sis” by her family. Her
early life was spent in Denison, Texas. There, she
graduated from Terrell School before graduating from Langston College
in Oklahoma. On August 4, 1953, she married Harry W. Easterling and
from that union June, Rene’, Lisa, and Rodney were born. She
started her teaching career in Denison, Texas at Langston Elementary
School.
In 1959, she and Harry moved to Denver, Colorado and she continued her teaching career with the Denver Public School system. She retired from teaching after forty-three years. Margaret was a dedicated teacher who inspired, motivated, and mentored many students. On many occasions, former students would approach her and express their appreciation for her being one of their best and favorite teachers. Margaret was a devout Christian, and attended Mount Gilead Baptist Church, New Covenant Christian Church, and Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church. She was a deaconess at New Covenant Christian Church and a participant in numerous church activities. Her favorite hymn was Leaning On The Ever Lasting Arms. Some of her favorite activities were playing SCRABBLE, working crossword puzzles, and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Easterling. She leaves to share precious memories; her sister, Dorothy Wilson; her four beloved children: June Easterling, Rene’ Easterling, Elesia Marchman and Rodney (Lydia) Easterling; two grandchildren, Monet’ (Raheem) Whiteside, and Wynel (Sinclair) Harris; eight great grandchildren: Raheem Whiteside, Alivia Whiteside, Jordan Whiteside, and Tyron Whiteside, Nehemiah Harris, Silas Harris, Xavier Harris, and Selah Harris; niece, Tana Ross, additional nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of special friends. Private gravesite service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 23rd, 2020 at Fairview Cemetery. Family and friends will gather to visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 22, 2020 at Fisher Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Fisher Funeral Home in Denison.
