Dr. L. N. Markham died Friday evening at 1 o'clock at the family
residence, No. 424 West Woodard street. The doctor had been seriously
ill for a number of weeks, but it was generally understood that he was
convalescing. Wednesday of this week a relapse came and from that time
forward he grew worse rapidly, dying, as stated above, Friday evening.
Dr. Markham came to Denison from Longview, Texas, in the spring of
1886, and engaged in the grocery business in connection with the
practice of medicine, and the excessive demand on his vitality at that
time is probably the indirect cause of his death. He soon found that it
would be impossible to continue in the mercantile line and at the same
time practice his profession; the business was disposed of, but not
until the doctor had become only the shadow of his former self. He was
one of Denison's most honored and respected citizens, and so successful
was he in his profession that he found it impossible to visit all who
sought his skill
