Sunday, May 1, 1904 pg.1 CONDENSED HOME NEWS Mrs. Mary Ihrig, who resided at No. 821 West Chestnut street, died Monday night from an attack of measles. The deceased was 17 years of age. The Sunday Gazetteer Sunday, May 15, 1904 pg.3 In Memoriam Two new-made graves in Maple Grove cemetery mark the sad ending of a romantic love affair, which has deeply interested a large number of our people. Last May Mr. Herman Ihhrig and Miss Mary Denton, the 16-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Y.C. Denton, eloped and were married, having obtained the necessary license without the formality of parental consent. About 2 months ago the young wife contracted measles and convalesced only to relapse; then rallied again for a brief time, just long enough to cheer the hearts of those dear to her, and then to sink into a state of coma which continued until death mercifully severed the bonds and liberated the soul from the prison of flesh. Four days before the fair young mother died, a tiny little daughter was born, though young Mrs. Ihrig never realized the baby's birth. The infant lived only a few hours; too fragil a human bud for earthy blooming, was transplanted to God's garden. Monday night the young mother simply ceased breathing; after suffering agony none the less terrible that she was sweetly unconscious of it, she quietly passed "over the river." The little baby had been buried Sunday morning and Wednesday afternoon the mortal remains of the mother were laid beside those of the child, and scores of friends turned from the rose-strewn mounds with heavy hearts and tear- dimmed eyes as they thought of pretty Mary Denton's girlhood and the tragic ending of her dreams of wedded bliss. She was fair to look upon, dast in a mound of beauty, gifted with rare traits of character and unusual intellectual ability for one so young. But she sleeps the last long sleep, and to her husband, her parents, brothers and sisters are extended sinceresty sympathy.
