Friday, February 7, 1958 pg. 1 C.B. Carroll Dies After Two Month's Illness Judge C. B. Carroll, Denison Justice of the Peace and a retired Katy railroad switchman, died at the Katy Employees Hospital Friday, January 31 at 8:30 p.m. after a 2 months struggle to overcome a malignancy. He entered the hospital on November 24. Funeral services were held at Johnson-Moore Chapel Sunday afternoon, February 2. Rev. Dr. Philips W. Walker, district superintendent of the Methodist Church officiated. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery with the Masons in charge of graveside services. Pallbearers were W.A. Neef [sic], Woody Blanton, Paul Borum, Walter Lebrecht, Bob Bailey and E.J. Lilley. Mr. Carroll was born in Greenfield, Illinois July 27, 1885, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Carroll. The family moved to Denton, then to San Antonio and finally to Denison when deceased was 6 years of age. He attended Peabody elementary school, the Denison High School and later Harshaw's Business Academy. He went to work for the Katy railroad in May 1905 and retired in 1937 after a nearly fatal accident which crippled him for the remainder of his life. He was appointed Corporation Court Judge for the city of Denison during the administration of the late Dr. T.J. Long, and served in that capacity under Mayors Bill Ashburn and Bill Marsico. He quit the city judge position to become justice of the peace to finish the unexpired term of the late Mort Scholl. He was elected to the office and was serving in that capacity when illness overtook him. Mr. Carroll was married to Lela Shelton in Denison February 19, 1923. They were the parents of 3 children, a daughter Patsy who died 9 years ago at the age of 14, and 2 sons, Richard Carroll of Wenatchee, Washington and Harry Carroll of El Paso. Mr. Carroll was a member of Waples Memorial Methodist Church where he had served on the Board of Stewards and had taught the Brotherhood Class for many years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 403 in which he had served in all its offices and as Past Master. He was also a member of the Eastern Star and had served as Past Patron. The Carroll home is at 1225 W. Main. Aside from his widow and 2 sons, he is survived by a s sister, Mrs. Grace Minnerly of Kansas City, Missouri and 7 grandchildren. Another sister, Mrs. J.C.
