Sunday, October 28, 1888 pg. 1 THE DEATH ROLL We are grieved beyond measure to announce the sudden death, by congestion of the bowels, of Miss Jessie May Simonson, which occurred Sunday evening at 10 o'clock, at her late residence, 418 Woodard street. Miss Jessie was a most estimable young lady, and though but a short time in our city, had endeared herself to many, and at the time of her death had a large circle of sincere friends in Denison. Her sickness was a very short one, having been in good health until Friday night, when she was taken suddenly ill. On Saturday two doctors were in attendance, who pronounced her complaint "congestion of the bowels." She rapidly grew worse, and forty-eight hours from the time she was taken sick, she was relieved from her most excruciating sufferings by death. Miss Simonson was a most thrifty young lady, and was in partnership with Mrs. S.E. McPherson in the dressmaking business. At the time of her death she was twenty-one years and five months of age. Her parents live in the country about 4 miles from the city, and were hardly informed of her illness, before the sad intelligence of her death reached them. She was a member of the M.E. Church (South), from which place the funeral occurred Tuesday morning, to Fairview Cemetery. The cortege was a lengthy one, and the services very impressive. MEMORIAL The grave, which yesterday closed over all that was mortal of Jessie May Simonson, received within its silent walls the remains of one of our dear friends. How sad to part with those whom we love, but we must yield; realize that we can go to them, and dwell where friendship and love never end. She has passed to the care of a wiser, more just, more merciful and more powerful guardian than man can ever be. If those who remain behind have regrets to indulge in they should be found after asking ourselves if we have in life performed our full duty to the loved one that has gone. Farewell, Jessie, beloved daughter, sister, tried and true friend: Is free from care and pain, Nor would we in our sorrow, Wish her back abain. But we'll find the old haunts vacant, And, wander where we will, We'll long "for the touch of a vanished hand, And the sound of a voice that is still." Yet we hope again to meet her, In the bright land of the blest, Where, "Safe in the arms of Jesus," We'll find eternal rest. Then weep not, friends and kindred, Though the way seems dark and long, Let us strive to meet dear Jessie, "In that summer land of son." Henrietta Younger Denison, Oct. 24th, 1888 Ray L.
