Friday, January 19, 1951 pg 4 Funeral services were conducted at Bratcher-Moore Funeral Home Thursday afternoon for Dr. J. A. Mayes, 73, retired physician and a resident of Denison for the last 45 years, who died at Madonna hospital Tuesday at 11:30 p.m., after several years of illness. The Rev. O. D. Reed, rector of St. Luke's Episcopal church conducted the services and burial was in Fairview cemetery with Bratcher-Moore directing. Dr. Mayes was born in Collin county, November 21, 1877, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolphus Mayes. His home here was at 1301 W. Gandy. He received his medical education at Trinity University and his medical degree in Galveston. He interned at Shreveport, La. He was married in Denison, Sept. 28, 1907 to Miss Louise West. He was a past president of the Denison Rotary club, a member of the Masonic Lodge 403, the Hella Temple, Dallas, the Elks club, the Woodmen of the world and a 32nd degree Mason, Dallas. He had served on the school board. Surviving are his widow, two sons, Allen Mayes an Donald Mayes of Denison; a brother, Coke Mayes, Austin; two sisters, Mrs. J. C. Greer, McKinney and Mrs. Alva Hartsfield, Dallas.

January 30, 1898 Local Condensations: Wednesday, Jan. 26, 1898. David Lee, aged 90 years, died Monday at the home of his grand daughter, Mrs. J. L. Drake, on West Sears street. The old gentleman had had an eventful life, and was identified with many of the most startling episodes of western pioneer life. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. John Benner Gibble.
