Hugh Edward Chesnutt 10 June 1911 - 13 February 2001 h/o Mary Louise Mary Louise Chesnutt 1 February 1920 - 17 November 2011 Mary
Louise Chesnutt, 91, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great
grandmother died peacefully in her home Wednesday morning Nov 17, 2011.
Born in Fort Worth, Texas on Feb 1, 1920, she was the only child of C.
W. Childress Jr. and Jyme Edwards Childress. Mary Louise graduated from
Paschal High school in 1936. She then went on to attend TCU where she
majored in Fine Arts and was very active in the University's Drama
department. Following her marriage to Mr. D.H. Snyder Jr., the couple resided on their cattle ranch in Benbrook, TX during World War II. Mrs. Chesnutt loved to tell friends about the time Life Magazine came to the ranch to take photographs for a cover story about Texas ranching. Much to her dismay, she was knocked off the cover of Life's June 6th 1944 edition by the invasion of Normandy. She was very startled to see paratroopers on that cover instead of a photo of her gazing up into the big blue Texas sky! Fortunately, Life did let her keep the photographs, which to this day remain treasured family heirlooms. After the end of the War, the family moved to Denison, Texas. Mary Louise devoted her time there to raising two children. She was a Cub Scout Den mother, and a founder of the Denison Community Players. A loyal member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Mary Louise served many years on the church's Altar Guild and volunteered at the Service League's Bargain Box re-sale shop. The family returned to Fort Worth in 1955. Widowed in 1962, Mary Louise returned to Denison upon her 1966 marriage to Mr. Hugh Chesnutt. She resumed her St. Luke's Altar Guild duties and Service League efforts. She was a Life Master in duplicate bridge and was known for hosting elegant yet very competitive bridge club parties. She and her husband loved to attend the symphony and the theatre. They were season ticket holders to the Dallas Summer Musicals for many years. An avid animal lover, she was completely devoted to her little dogs Merry and Annie Survivors include her daughter, Linda Hill and husband Richard Hill; son, John Snyder and wife Beverly; granddaughter, Ashley Hill; grandsons Todd Snyder and wife Bunny, Dudley Snyder, Marcus Snyder and wife Wesley; great grandsons Van Snyder and William Snyder. Mrs. Chesnutt was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Childress Jr., husband D. H. Snyder (d.1962), husband Hugh Chesnutt (d.2001); and her beloved daughter-in-law, Nancy Tilley Snyder. On behalf of Mary Louise, the family would like to extend a special thank you to friend Linda Gosdin and the ladies from Tender Loving Care. They were a great help to Mrs. Chesnutt during her later years. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, Nov 23, 2011, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Denison, Texas. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Denison, Texas. Friends visitation will be available that morning between 8:00am and 9:00am at Bratcher Funeral Home.
