Friday, March 3, 1911 pg. 15 MISS VENABLE DEAD Heart Trouble Causes Death of Well Known Denison Lady Denison, March 3 - Miss Mattie C. Venable, aged 58 years, died last night at 10:15 o'clock at the residence of her sister, Mrs. T.W. Stratton, No. 617 West Gandy street, of heart trouble. Her last illness covered a period of several weeks. Funeral services will be conducted from the residence Sunday afternoon by Rev. A.F. Heltman, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of which the decedent was a faithful member. Miss Venable had resided in Denison for 23 years with her sister, Mrs. Stratton. She was born in Shelbyville, Kentucky. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Stratton and Mrs. Metcalf of Kansas City, and a brother, Sam P. Venable of Dripping Springs. A niece, Mrs. Gerald Hughes of Kansas City, is here to attend the funeral and her mother, Mrs. Metcalf, will arrive tomorrow morning on the Katy Limited. Miss Venable was an artist of note. She spent many years of her life studying art and developing her talent for this line of work to which she devoted her life. Up to the time of her last illness, she conducted an art class. Her ability as an artist was well known and appreciated by Denison people on the walls of whose homes hang dozens of pictures that her brush produced.
