Friday, February 3, 1933 pg. 1 A.N. RHAMY, FORMER CITY ENGINEER, DIES A.N. Rhamy, 82, one of the early settlers of Denison and city engineer here for many years, city builder and educator, died here suddenly at his home, 725 E. Texas, Thursday at 5 o'clock. When the end came, Mr. Rhamy was at his home which he has owned since coming to Denison in 1875. His wife had gone to the home of a daughter, Mrs. A.A. Morrison, for a short time and when she returned found her husband dead in bed. He died of heart trouble. Mr. Rhamy was born in Xenia, Ohio, leaving that place for Wabash Co., Indiana at the age of 6. When a young man he came to Texas and located in Denison in the year 1875 purchasing the 23-acre farm which is still the old home. For a while he boarded in Denison on first coming here, teaching school. He was the first principal the schools had and he taught for a period of 3 years. Some of his pupils still live here. In 1910 he was city engineer and served for several years. For years he served the city in one capacity or another, either as city engineer, councilman or on the school board. He was a well educated man and a leader. Fortune smiled on him and when the discussion was up last year to build the courthouse in Denison, he was one who offered $25,000 for this project. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. A.N. Rhamy and 3 daughters as follows: Mrs. Robert Wagstaff of Harison, Arkansas; Mrs. C.C. Snow of Oakland City, Indiana; Mrs. A.A. Morrison of this city. Funeral arrangements will be held up pending hearing from the daughter in Indiana. However, it is likely services will be conducted Saturday afternoon with interment in Fairview. Short-Murray will have charge. Services will be conducted from the family residence under the auspices of the First Presbyterian church. Mr. Rhamy suffered the loss of one of his lower limbs some 2 years ago and for the past few months had been in a weakened condition. His interests in the welfare of the city were always keen and he was among its most ardent boosters. As city engineer he did outstanding work and much of the constructive work that has been done in that line is due to his labors.
