Friday, November 16, 1945 Enoch Hughes Dies After Short Illness Funeral services for Enoch Hughes, well known businessman and property holder, was buried here Wednesday afternoon from Short-Murray parlors, with Rev. O. D. Reed, Jr., rector of St. Luke's officiating. Interment was at Fairview. Mr. Hughes, one of the most colorful sportsmen of the south, and leader in many circles of activity for the good of Denison, was active up to within four days of his death, having followed that week one of his favorite sports, hunting. His deeds of helping others, little known to the people gen . . . Mr. Hughes was an extensive owner of property in Denison, and was making large improvements on his property, with some of it still going on. Mr. Hughes had one son, Arthur Hughes, who died several years ago. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Clara Hughes; a half-brother, N. B. Knight, Houston; one grand-daughter, Mrs. Lillian Farries, Long Island, N.Y., a grandson, Enoch H. Hughes, Glendale, N.Y., and two greatgrandchildren. The Denison Press Friday, August 10, 1956 Funeral services for Mrs. Enoch Hughes, 85, were held at Bratcher chapel Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock with the Rev. J. Robert Maceo, Jr., curate of St. Luke's Episcopal church, officiating. Burial was in Fairview cemetery. Mrs. Hughes died in Escondido, Calif. Wednesday. She formerly lived in Denison. The Hughes home here was at 1815 S. Fannin. Mrs. Hughes was a native of Erie, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. C. Emerson. She had lived in California the past ten years. Survivors are one brother, George Emerson, and one sister, Mrs. Louise Pollard, both of Escondido.
