C. Bear, 71, operator of the Randell Lake pump station since 1935, was
found dead after an apparent heart attack on the steps to the warehouse
at the lake at 2 p.m. Saturday. His body was discovered by R. G. Clack
of Durant, member of the Durant water department who had come to
Randell to borrow some supplies..
Indications were that Mr. Bear had been working in the warehouse mixing some water-treating chemicals, possibly when the fatal attack first struck. Justice of Peace Charles McKemy conducted the inquest and attributed death to natural causes. He was married to Miss Minnie Myrtle Peters in 1900. They had made their home at 431 East Woodard the past 40 years. Mr. Bear was chief engineer for the Crystal Ice Plant, then was in business for himself, and finally was an agent for Cities Service Co. before entering the city's employ in 1935. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Surviving are his widow; two sons, Joe Bear of Denison and David Bear of Dallas; one brother, H. L. Bear of Henrietta; one sister, Mrs. R. G. Walker of Paris; and two grandsons. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at Bratcher-Moore chapel, the Rev. V. Cyrus Barcus, pastor of Waples Memorial Methodist Church, will officiate.
