Jerry Sue Brown Massenburg 21 June 1931 - 22 February 2021 DENISON
– Our sweet mother, Jerry Sue Massenburg, departed this earth for her
Heavenly home on Monday, February 22, 2021, as she was surrounded by
her children.
Mom was born June 21, 1930 in Bonham, Texas to Everette Lee and Eunice Faye Jones Brown. She grew up in Bailey. Arriving in Denison in her later teens, she set out working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company (present day AT&T). She married Bill Massenburg, Sr in 1948 and settled into raising a family. When the youngest of us kids was old enough, she set out on a 22-year career with Texas Instruments in Sherman. When Mom entered retirement in the early 1990’s, her pace didn’t fall off, it picked up dramatically. For nearly all of her adult life, she was a member and servant of First Presbyterian Church in Denison, fulfilling the role of Church Elder, Session Member, and church school teacher. For a number of years, she delivered Meals on Wheels and did sewing projects for the Veterans’ Home in Bonham. A large portion of her volunteer work came from refurbishing sewing machines. Friends and strangers alike would bring her their malfunctioning excess and she would turn them into functioning tools to make a living for the underprivileged in Latin American countries. As much joy as volunteering and serving others brought her, the greatest joy she experienced was family. We were truly the lucky ones to grow up with a fantastic, nurturing mom. She is survived by us four children: Bill Massenburg, Jr. and wife, Susan, of Denison; Diane Walling of McKinney; Leanne Clubb and husband, Rick, of Denison, and Kyle Massenburg and wife, Debbie, of Henderson, NV. From this brood of four came eight grandchildren: Bryan (Kerri) Massenburg, Johnny (Jordan) Adams, Jenny (Chad) Anderson, Chris McKee, Cheyenne (Tony) Morgan, Caleb (Caroline) Clubb, Kyla (Steve) Gebhart, and Keith (Brittany) Massenburg, plus eleven great-grandchildren ranging from college age to nine months. Mom is also survived by her siblings: brother, Elliott Lee “Butch” Brown (Denison), sisters Norma Jo Shannon (Denison), Nell Riddle and husband, Bill (Conroe), and Patsy Berry (Leonard). She was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, Harold Edwin Browne. Mere words cannot come close to expressing the love and gratitude we have for our mom, Jerry Sue. Until we meet again, Mom! Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 26, 2021 at Fairview Cemetery in Denison, Texas. Family and friends will gather to visit from Noon to 1:30 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Home, Fairview Cemetery Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson CountyTXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
