Friday, January 29, 1943 pg. 6 Mrs. Edward J. Leeper, only survival of the late Judge and Mrs. S.A. Gilbert, early settlers of this city, died at her home at 930 W. Sears street Sunday night at 9:15 following an illness of several weeks. She had lived in Denison since 1884 at the present location, a home built by her father before that section of the city was cleared of the underbrush. She was born at Weston, Missouri, coming to Denison at an early age. Her father was one of the best known attorneys in this part of the state and was active in helping build Denison. Mrs. Leeper was educated in the schools of St. Joseph, St. Louis, and Monticello college, Alton, Illinois. Funeral services were conducted from the family residence at 10 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. James E. Spivey, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, of which she was a member, officiating. Interment was made at Fairview with Short-Murray directing. She was married March 4, 1889 to Edward J. Leeper as Miss Margaret Alice Gilbert. A daughter of the couple, a former school teacher here, Miss Aline Gilbert, died several years ago. Surviving are the husband; a brother, S.A. Gilbert, of Houston; and a niece, Mrs. Alice Gardner, of Houston.
