J. B. Turner 26 January 1855 - 26 January 1897 The Sunday Gazetteer
Sunday, January 31, 1897 pg.1 A GOOD MAN GONE The Death of City Jailer J.B. Turner After a two weeks' illness, City Jailor J.B. Turner died of pneumonia Tuesday at his residence on Crawford street. The death of Mr. Turner will cause profound regret in the community, as he was universally esteemed. He was a gentle and lovable man. As a neighbor the latchstring of his door was always out and none in distress who ever knocked there or entered th ere ever went away empty-handed. As a public man he pointed to a stainless record, and boasted with pardonable pride of duties faithfully performed. He was the most humane and efficient jailor that this city has ever had. The prisoners were always sounding his praises and extolling his kindness. The deceased was a member of the Woodmen of the World and carried a $2,000 insurance. He was laid to rest Thursday under the auspices of the order. Fairview Cemetery Susan Hawkins © 2024 If you find any of Grayson CountyTXGenWeb links inoperable, please send me a message. |
