Harriet N. D. Morrison 14 February 1882 Aged 65 Years Sunday Gazetteer
Sunday, April 5, 1891 The Funeral of Dr. Morrison The funeral of Dr. Alexander Morrison took place from the family residence Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock, burial in Fairview cemetery. It was the express wish of Dr. Morrison that there should be no religious services either at the house or at the grave. As deceased was a member of the Denison Philosophical Association, the funeral was very appropriately conducted under the auspices of that liberal society. Mr. J. D. Shaw, editor of the Independent Pulpit, Waco, was in the city, and upon request conducted the services. Only a few introductory remarks were made at the residence, but at the grave he delivered an exceedingly appropriate address, during which he paid a becoming tribute to the character of deceased, impression upon those present the importance of so discharging our duties in this world as to be worthy of emulation by those who come after us. Death, he said, was nothing to be dreaded. It is as natural to die as to be born. Believe what we may concerning a future existence, while here our duties concern only this life. We cannot help the dead, but we can do good to the living. Mr. Shaw was listened to with close attention. There was a very large attendance, the procession consisting of some seventy fine carriages. The following gentlemen acted as pall bearers: Major L. L. Jaughs, J. T. Munson, W. A. Tibbs, Sam Star, Judge J. M. Cook, R. M. King, Jesse Looney and B. C. Murray.
