Conductor Brown's Obsequies
The funeral of conductor John Brown of the Houston and Texas railway, who was assassinated near Sherman on Friday night week, took place from the First Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The church was packed to the doors during the service, and the streets lined with waiting carriages for blocks in every direction. The attendance at the grave was equally large, being the most numerous concourse that has ever followed a hearse into Fairview cemetery. The funeral was under the auspices of the order of the Railroad Conductors and participated in by members of all the railroad brotherhoods. George H. George H. Brown, who had been sick for a long time with consumption at the residence of his brother, John W. Brown of the Missouri-Pacific, died Wednesday at 11:45 am, aged 37 years. The deceased was a locomotive engineer and the time of his taking sick was the employ of the Texas and Pacific company. He had been railroading for eighteen years. The funeral, which was under the auspices of the Brotherhood of Locomotives Engineers, took place from the residence of his brother, 320 Gandy street, today, with interment in Fairview Cemetery.
