Sunday, September 15, 1901 pg. 4 A SAD DEATH Death visited the home of Mr. J.C. Lee, of Sterrett, I.T., and called to her final rest the wife and mother, Mrs. M.E. Lee, aged 28 years, at 9 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8. Mrs. Lee was the youngest daughter of W.R. Allen, 1019 W. Crawford street, and had made her home here until about 4 months since, when they sold out, the family locating at Sterrett. About noon Saturday the father received a telephone message that Bettie, his baby girl, was dying, and hastened to her bedside, joining hands with husband and brothers and sisters of the stricken one in trying to save the precious life, but to no avail. All that loving hands could do were for naught. It seems that a strange premonition came to Mrs. Lee, as, while talking with a friend but a few days before she left Denison for Sterrett, she made the request that in case of death while there to be brought home and buried in Fairview cemetery. Miss Betty Allen and Mr. J.C. Lee were married in 1890. Three children blessed the union , 2 boys and a baby girl. The mother gave the little girl to Mrs. Duckworth, a sister living near here in the country, while the father keeps with him the two boys. Besides Mrs. Duckworth, Mrs. Eckles, of Tennessee; Mr. Will Allen, of Denison, and Mr. Ed. Allen, of Ector, Texas, survive. But having charge of the little girl from the time she was three years old, and growing up with her, Mrs. Lee was as dear to Mrs. Allen and Mr. Elmo Allen, the step-mother and brother, as if she had been an own daughter and full sister. Mrs. Lee was a consistent member of the Christian church, having united with it shortly after her marriage. Besides the relatives she leaves many warm friends here who grieve for her early death. The body was brought to this city at 1:30 a.m. Monday, and the funeral service conducted from the family residence of her father at 10 a.m. Monday, her old pastor, Rev. Carnes, conducting it. The interment was at Fairview cemetery. Considering the short notice given, a large number of her friends and friends of the family accompanied the remains to their last resting place. "After life's fitful fever she sleeps well." The Bonham News
