Tuesday, August 16, 1938 pg. 4 A.C. SCHIRLITZ DIES MONDAY AT HOSPITAL August C. Schirlitz, 209 West Gandy, died at a local hospital at 8:10 p.m. Monday, after having been in bad health the past 3 years. He had been a patient in the hospital for the last week. Bishop Harry T. Moore will officiate at the services to be held at the Short-Murray chapel at 11 o'clock Wednesday morning. Mr. Shirlitz was born in Nelson county, Wisconsin, October 10, 1867. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. August Schirlitz. He came to Denison at the age of 12 years and attended the Denison school. He lost his eyesight when he was 19 years old. After spending 5 years in the state school for the blind at Austin, Texas, he moved to Cameron, Texas. In 1898 he went to Oklahoma and drew land in the run near Wairrekke, where he lived and taught music. In 1904 Mr. Shirlitz went to Iona, California, where he lived until he came back to Denison August 15, 1936. He was a member of the Presbyterian church.
