Friday, April 27, 1945 Denison Boy Is Dr'wned Cherry Point Saturday Funeral services were conducted here this week for Sgt. Edward E. Elkins, 23, a Denison born and reared young man who was drowned at Cherry Point, N.C. Saturday. He was a veteran of the Pacific War area. The son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Elkins, 831 W. Morgan, he was born Sept. 11m 1921 and received his education here. He had been connected with Hotel Denison for three years prior to entering the service and was also connected with the local U. S. Engineer offices. His wife, whom he married Dec. 23, 1939, was the former Miss Hazel Wilder, of Durant. His wife and parents survive. On Oct. 9, 1942, Sgt. Elkins enlisted in the marines. He went oversears in January 1943, and served until Aug. 1944, when he returned to the States. He served on Guadalcanal, Munda, Onodonga, and the Green Islands. He held a presidential unit citation. He had been stationed at Cherry Point for about two months and information received here said he was drowned in the Atlantic. No details were available. Sgt.
