Friday, July 16, 1948 pg. 3 Funeral services are to be held here for the late Col. Samuel J. Davis, former Denison man, who passed away Friday at Greenville, South Carolina, from a heart ailment. He had been in the Air Force of his country for the past 39 years and saw combat duty in World War II with both the paratroopers and as an officer in the Air Transport Command. He returned to America in 1943. He suffered a heart attack while on duty in Florida and was sent immediately to the hospital at Greenville. Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.P. Davis of Denison, who resided at 1028 West Nelson, Col. Davis was born here January 31, 1900, and was the first boy born here in the Twentieth Century. He attended Denison high school and Austin College and worked in a Katy railroad office for a short time before joining the Air Force in 1919. Col. Davis and Miss Marian Hall, Denison school teacher, were married here January 13, 1932. Their only child, Sammie, was born in Hawaii. He was a member of the Masons and the Methodist church. Aside from his widow and son, he is survived by 3 sisters, Mrs. Tom Martin, Mrs. W.R. McDonald, and Mrs. Claud Easterly, all of Denison. Mrs. Charles H. Harris, 1326 West Walker, is a sister of Mrs. Davis. Mrs. Harris left Dallas by air late Saturday for Greenville to accompany her sister and nephew back to Denison.
