Friday, February 19, 1943 pg. 4 G. McDaniel, Crash Victim, Buried Here Within 7 days from the time Ensign Gordon McDaniel, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. B. McDaniel of this city, bade his parents goodbye after a 4-day visit with them, news was received of his death following a crash in a navy plane at Ream Field, California, Monday the 15th. Ensign McDaniel, Denison born and reared and educated in t he local schools, was a graduate o f the law department o f Texas State University and was connected with the law firm of Campbell, Myer & Eat ham at Houston when he enlisted in the Navy Air Corps. He was sworn in New Year's Day, 1941, at the Dallas Cotton bowl between halves of the game, and started his training at Grand Prairie. His wings were received at Corpus Christi along with his commission last November. Final training was given at Miami, ending with February 3, the young man coming by home for a few days visit. Born in Denison, July 13, 1916, he was reared here and graduated in the class of 1933. Surviving are his parents; 2 brothers, Dr. L. Tillman McDaniel, Boston, Massachusetts; and Edward Stuart McDaniel, who has volunteered for Nay Air Corps service; 2 sisters, Miss Helen Louise McDaniel, New York; and Miss Patti McDaniel, at Denton, Texas State College for Women students, and his grandmother, Mrs. Anna Duggan, Denison.
