Mrs. J. W. Madden, 79, wife of one of Denison's pioneer business leaders and a resident of this city 56 years, died at 7:05 a.m. today at her home, 1103 West Morton.
Death followed a long illness which started with a broken hip sustained in a fall.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the family home with Bratcher-Moore, funeral directors, in charge. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery>
Rev. Duke Barron, Waples pastor, will officiate.
Mrs. Madden was born in Collin County,Dec. 16, 1872, and was reared in Denton County, where she received her public schooling. She was a graduate of Baylor University.
Mrs. and Mrs. Madden were married at  Denton, July 2, 1893. Her husband, founder and for many years operator of the J.W. Madden Co here, was also reared in Denton County, and began his mercantile career as an employe of the Denton store owned by his future wife's father, A.E. Graham.
The couple came to Denison in 1896 for the opening of the Madden store, which was sold a couple of years ago to Dunlap. Mrs. Madden was a member of Waples Memorial Methodist Church and was especially active in the promotion of Bible study activities.
Surviving are her husband, one son, J. W. (Tobe) Madden, Jr., Dallas; two brothers, Wallace R. and Olin Graham, both of Covina, and Los Angeles, Calif., and one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
