Saturday February 8, 1941 Funeral services for John Kemper, 72, retired railway mail clerk, prominent pecan grower and resident of Denison 45 years who died at 4:45 p.m. Friday at a local hospital after an illness of five weeks, will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. from Short-Murray chapel with Rev. J. C. Oglesby officiating. Interment will be at Fairview cemetery, Short-Murray officiating. Deceased was born in Pennsylvania June 1, 1868 and came to Texas in 1894. He was married to Miss Luella Moore in Denison April 30, 1924 and retired from active mail service in 1930. He resided at 1323 W. Walker street and since his retirement had become a prominent pecan grower with his Pecandale farm near Carpenter's Bluff. Surviving are his widow, a sister, Miss Harriett L. Kemper of Tampa, Fla, a niece and nephew. Luella
Jane Moore Kemper (1866 - 1946) was the daughter of Levi B. Moore and
Virginia A. Rohrbough Moore. She graduated from the University of
Kansas, Topeka, in its Class
of 1887. In 1898, she was working in her father's jewelry store on Main
Street in Denison, as a watchmaker and engraver. In 1909 she was living
at 530 West Chestnut Street in Denison. At age 58, Luella married John Kemper on April 30, 1924. He was a retired railway mail clerk noted for the pecans he grew on his Pecandale farm at Carpenter's Bluff. He had arrived in Denison in 1894 and died on February 7, 1941. Luella and John Kemper are buried in Fairview Cemetery. Luella's sister Nellie Moore married Humboldt H. Cummins, prominent Denison attorney, in 1904.
