FUNERAL SERVICES ARE HELD IN TRENTON FOR DRY GOOD MERCHANT
Trenton- Funeral services were held Monday for Tom Walter Ayers, a dry goods merchant here for the past 35 years, who died at his home Sunday following a week's serious illness.  Interment was in the Everheart Cemetery north of Whitewright.
Mr. Ayers, a native Texan, was born near Canaan September 12, 1886, a son of Mark and Mary Ayers.  He established a store in Trenton.
Survivors are his wife; a son, Charles Ayers of Whitewright; two brothers, Tobe and Jim Ayers of Whitewright; and a granddaughter.

MRS. T.W. AYRES DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Funeral services for Mrs. T.W. Ayres, 76, were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Church at Trenton, conducted by Rev. Harold Taylor of Whitewright and Rev. Wesley Thompson of Trenton.  Burial in Canaan Cemetery was directed by Earnheart Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Holmes Connelly, Henry Donaghey, E.M. Atkins, R.R. Summers, Paul Stephens and Edgar Bow.
Mrs. Ayres died at 12:15 a.m. Saturday at the home of her son, Charles E. Ayres, here after a long illness.
Born April 16, 1878, at Johnson Station, near Arlington, Mrs. Ayres was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Jopling.  She was a graduate of Grayson College, and taught school in this area until her marriage to T.W. Ayres on May 17, 1905.  Since the death of Mr. Ayres December 29, 1940, she had operated the T.W. Ayres dry goods store in Trenton.  She taught Sunday School class in the Methodist Church at Trenton, of which she was a member for many years, served on the Trenton school board, and was a charter member and past president of the Woman's Culture Club of Trenton.
Surviving are a son, Charles E. Ayres of Whitewright; a granddaughter, Patricia Charles Ayres of Leonard; a sister, Mrs. J.A. Cagle of Greenville; a brother, Walter Jopling of Burleson; two half-brothers, Charlie Jopling of Bowie and Lem Jopling of San Angelo; and a step-sister, Mrs. Lila Godfrey of Bowie.
