KILLED FOR JEALOUSY
Sunday morning a tragedy occurred near Buckhonr, Canadian District, in the Cherokee nation, at the house of John Sevier, Jr.,  a Cherokee.  As reported to us by a reliable party, Bill Fields, also a Cherokee, has been living at Sevier's house; Sunday morning Sevier went to the kitchen door, and looking in, found his wife and Fields hugging and playing.  He picked up a piece of board and commenced beating his wife, then turned on Fields, who drew his knife and stood him off.  They both agreed to quit then, and Fields consented to go and took up a shot-gun that was there and fired off the loads, he said, to prevent it being used on him.  He then got his horse and brought it to the gate, and was putting the saddle on when Sevier came out with a pistol and shot him dead. - - - Indian Journal
