Hallenbeck


Wilfred A. Hallenbeck was born September 1855 in Hudson, Columbia Co., New York, the son of George W. Hallenbeck (1818 - 1886) and Ann Maria Ten Eyck (1815 - 1859).  He married Mary Eugenia Carlat in Denison, Grayson Co., Texas, 1 January 1880.  This family were descendants of Caspar Jacobese Hallenbeck, born 1620, Hallenbeck, Schweiswig, Germany and died August 1703, Albany, New York.  Mary Eugenia Carlat's (March 1859, Independence, Missouri - 15 June 1942, San Antonio, Texas), parents were from France.

Inez, Eva and Mae (1881 - 1963) were the three Hallenbeck sisters.  Eva, or Evelyn as she was sometimes referred to, had
a lovely contralto voice, and she was popular in music circles, according to newpaper accounts.

The Hallenbecks were in the catering business in Denison, Texas.

NOTICE
I have this day sold the stock and fixtures of the City Bakery to Messrs. Rowley & Hallenbeck, who will continue the business at the old stand...Alvih Shaw

The city directory for Denison 1901-1902 listed Wilfred A. Hallenbeck and Ralph St. John as partners in a bakery, ice cream parlor, cafe, and confectioners at 309 West Main Street.  Hallenbeck was the first business man in Denison to install electric fans in his store.

By 1910 Wilfred and his family had moved to St. Louis, Missouri.   Charles F. Hallenbeck, the adopted son, was vice-president of the Southwest Supply Company in St. Louis, Missouri.


Mr. Hallenbeck died in St. Louis in 1915 and was buried Fairview Cemetery, Denison, Texas along with his wife and son, Charles Wilfred Hallenbeck.

The 1901 City Directory notes the house at 505 W. Gandy St. was run as a boarding house by Mrs. Hallenbeck
