July 3, 1897 Sherman Siftings A Narrow Escape Sherman, Tex., July 2 - Dennis Wilson, colored, an employe of the Sherman Plumbing company, had a close call while laying a sewer connevtion at the foot of West Lamar for the Houston street jail. The narrow ditch at the bottom of which he was at work caved in on him and covered him under at least three feet of dirt. When taken out after several minutes rapid work, he was more dead than alive, but is all right at this hour.
