July 3, 1897 Sherman Siftings A Narrow Escape Sherman, Tex., July 2 - Dennis Wilson, colored, an employee of the Sherman Plumbing company, had a close call while laying a sewer connection at the foot of West Lamar for the Houston street jail. The narrow ditch at the bottom of which he was at work caved in on him and covered him under at least three feet of dirt.
