The obituary of J. B. McDougall mentions his servant, James "Uncle Jim" Ryder. (body servant-like a butler)Ryder is listed with the McDougall family at 412 W. Morton in the 1910 Census. He's described as a widowed black male, born in Georgia around 1859.

*He also appears in the 1887 and 1907 Denison city directories. In 1887 he was a cook rooming with Nancy Mims, a colored woman, at 114 W. Walker. A woman with that name died in 1896 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
Ryder is also listed in the 1907 City Directory as a laborer living with the McDougall's at 412 W. Morton.
