INDIAN TERRITORY
Jerry Lane of Grand River, is 86 years old and a remarkable character.  Fifty years of his life he was a slave in Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama.  He was the servant of a prominent physician and went with his master wherever business called, which brought him in contact with many people.  On this account and owing to a remarkable memory, his services have been in demand as a witness in citizenship cases where Indian ancestry is required in proof.  Uncle Jerry has been married 7 times and enjoys the distinction of being the father of 47 children. - Vinita Leader
