Sunday, August 1, 1897 pg. 2 INDIAN TERRITORY Jerry Lane of Grand River, is 86 years old and a remarkable character. Fifty years of his life he was a slave in Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama. He was the servant of a prominent physician and went with his master wherever business called, which brought him in contact with many people. On this account and owing to a remarkable memory, his services have been in demand as a witness in citizenship cases where Indian ancestry is required in proof.
